National Wrestling championship begins in Kashmir

Srinagar, Sep 21 (UNI) The three-day long National Wrestling Championship began at the Sher-e-Kashmir Indoor Stadium here today.

The championship, hosted by the Jammu and Kashmir government under the auspices of the Indian Wrestling Federation (IWF), was inaugurated by the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Minister Babu Singh this evening.

More than 600 wrestlers (400 boys and 200 girls) from different parts of the country would take part in the 26th National junior boys and ninth National junior girls Wrestling Championship.

The teams belonging to Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttranchal, Chatisgarh, Mizoram, West Bengal Nagaland, Orrisa, Assam, Karnataka, Kerala, Goa, Maharashtra and Bihar were among the participants.

The championship will be free style, Greco-Roman style.

Last year the championship was held at Pune in Maharashtra.
