Nayeemuddin returns to Brothers' Union of Bangladesh as coach

Dhaka, Jan 20 (UNI) Less then a year after being sacked as Indian football coach, Syed Nayeemuddin will take charge of Bangladesh's top club Brothers' Union.

For Nayeemuddin, who was shown the door by the AIFF in March last year after a string a poor results by the national side in the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers, it will be sort of home coming as he had guided Brothers' Union to their first national league title in 2003-04 season.

Besides having worked at the helm of India senior and Under-23 sides, the 59-year-old former India star and the only football coach to have been decorated with Dronacharya Award, has also coached top Indian clubs including all the three Kolkata giants -- Mohun Bagan, East Bengal, Mohammedan Sporting -- and Mahindra United as well as Santosh Trophy teams of Bengal and Andhra Pradesh in his illustrious coaching career.

''Nayeemuddin is expected to arrive in Dhaka within a week and take charge of the team,'' Brothers' Union manager Amer Khan told reporters here.

Nayeemuddin would replace Wajed Gazi who decided to join another Bangladesh Professional League outfit Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra and the Indian's appointment was a big step for the two-time premier league champion side of Bangladesh who are aiming to win the maiden Bangladesh Professional League, starting next month.

Brothers Union qualified for the AFC Cup last year and were in the same group of Mahindra United.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) has dissolved its Professional Football League committee according to the Pro League statutes.
