Anthony Edwards Makes History as Timberwolves Dominate Suns in Blowout Victory

By Tanisha Chhabra

Anthony Edwards etched his name in NBA history on Sunday night, leading the Minnesota Timberwolves to a dominant 116-98 victory over the Phoenix Suns. The 23-year-old guard had an explosive performance, scoring 44 points while also setting a new franchise record for most three-pointers in a single season.

Edwards, known for his shooting ability, made six three-pointers in the game, bringing his season total to 244—surpassing Malik Beasley’s previous record of 240. Edwards reached this milestone in just 59 games, breaking Beasley’s record, which took 79 games to achieve. The performance highlighted not only Edwards’ scoring prowess but also his rapid development as one of the league’s premier long-range shooters.

In addition to his 44 points, Edwards contributed seven rebounds and five assists, demonstrating his all-around game. His shooting continues to be a key weapon for the Timberwolves this season. While there has been some debate about his reliance on the three-pointer, his success on the court this season has been undeniable, and his scoring has been a driving force for the team.

The Timberwolves’ victory over the Suns pushed their record to 33-29, keeping them in contention for a playoff spot in the competitive Western Conference. The team is also starting to get healthier, with Julius Randle making his return to the lineup. However, Rudy Gobert remains sidelined with a back injury, missing his seventh consecutive game.

This win was crucial for the Timberwolves, who have had their fair share of challenges this season. Edwards’ performance, both in terms of his individual achievements and his leadership on the court, is a bright spot for the team. As he continues to break records and elevate his game, Edwards is solidifying his place as one of the NBA’s most exciting young stars. The future looks promising for both Edwards and the Timberwolves as they aim for a playoff push.
