NBA Playoff Updates: Nuggets Secure 2-1 Lead Against Thunder; Cavaliers Defeat Pacers To Stay Alive

In the latest NBA playoff action, the Denver Nuggets edged the Oklahoma City Thunder for a 2-1 series lead, while the Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Indiana Pacers to reduce their deficit. Jamal Murray and Donovan Mitchell were standout performers in their respective games.

Jamal Murray's 27 points and Michael Porter Jr.'s crucial 21 points propelled the Denver Nuggets to a 113-104 overtime victory against the Oklahoma City Thunder. This win gave the Nuggets a 2-1 lead in their Western Conference semifinal series. Nikola Jokic contributed with 20 points and 16 rebounds, while Aaron Gordon added 22 points. The Nuggets managed an 11-2 run in overtime, securing their lead.

In Cleveland, Donovan Mitchell scored 43 points and grabbed nine rebounds, leading the Cavaliers to a decisive 126-104 win over the Indiana Pacers. This victory reduced the Pacers' series lead to 2-1 in the Eastern Conference semifinals. The Cavaliers, finally at full strength, capitalised on their depth and strategy to avoid a potential 3-0 deficit.

Nuggets and Cavaliers Achieve Crucial Playoff Wins

Nikola Jokic had a challenging shooting night, making only eight of his 25 attempts and missing all ten three-point tries. However, he initiated Denver's overtime surge with a finger-roll layup. Despite his struggles, Jokic's contributions were vital as the Nuggets never fell behind again after his play.

The Cavaliers' success was bolstered by Max Strus, who scored 20 points and added seven rebounds and assists each. Three other Cleveland players also reached double figures. The Cavs led by as much as 26 points during the game and maintained control even when Indiana reduced their lead to 11 early in the fourth quarter.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of Oklahoma City had a tough evening, scoring only 18 points after missing 15 of his 22 shots and going one for six from beyond the arc. Jalen Williams led OKC with an impressive performance, scoring 32 points while Chet Holmgren added another 18.

The physical nature of Cleveland's game against Indiana was evident with players frequently hitting the floor. DeAndre Hunter endured a hard shoulder hit after scoring early in the second quarter, nearly knocking him down. Meanwhile, Mitchell took a tumble into front-row seats following an offensive foul call.

Strategic Adjustments Prove Crucial

Cleveland's strategic adjustments played a significant role in their victory over Indiana. They made use of zone defence to slow down the Pacers' high-scoring offence and dominated rebounding with a margin of 56-37. Their efforts included making fourteen three-pointers throughout the game.

In Denver's match against Oklahoma City, both teams missed opportunities to seal victory during regulation time. With just seconds left on the clock, Gilgeous-Alexander missed a jumper from twelve feet out while Jokic failed to convert a nineteen-footer at the buzzer.

Upcoming Challenges for Teams

The Cavaliers will aim to continue their momentum in Game Four on Sunday as they seek to even out their series against Indiana at home. Meanwhile, Denver will host Oklahoma City at Ball Arena for Game Four on Sunday as well.

Cleveland controlled most of their game after breaking away from a tied score with an impressive twenty-five-to-four run that gave them a comfortable halftime lead of sixty-six to forty-five.
