Neck injury to impact Gagan Narang's medal quest on Friday?

London, Aug 3: Gagan Narang, who won the first medal for India at Olympics 2012 on Monday, had less time to celebrate his feat as he was focusing on the other two events in which he is participating. Gagan is participating in 50M Air Rifle Prone, which is slated to begin today in less than an hour, as he is also being bothered about the persisting neck injury since his bronze medal event on Monday.

Gagan Narang, who is expected to participate in the event on Friday at the Royal Military Barracks, was working hard on healing the injury after winning the bronze medal on Monday.

"Gagan pulled a neck muscle, I think during the 10m air rifle final. He didn't feel the pain that day but he complained about it the next morning," national coach Sunny Thomas told DNA.

While this wasn't the only worry for the medal winner at Olympics, as Narang was suffering from a knee injury earlier, the neck pain adds more woes as expectations are soaring high on Narang as he participates in the 50M Rifle Prone event on Friday.

Narang, who is working on the fitness with his team physiotherapist since Tuesday, also felt he did not find time to cherish the moment, as he was busy healing the injury and focusing on the other events.

While his coach, Thomas who is working with Narang and helping him sort out issues ahead of the event on Friday, said, "To remain in that position for more than one hour is tough. His knee is not a big problem anymore. It has been holding up well for the last few weeks. We are worried a bit about his neck as it was bothering him a lot on Friday. But it is getting better now. Hopefully, he'll be fit and ready for Friday."
