Neeraj Chopra, Arshad Nadeem Food Diet Comparision: How Different Do Both Olympic Stars Eat?

By Siddhika Prajapati

At the Paris Olympics 2024, it wasn't just Neeraj Chopra who stole the spotlight. While India's javelin ace was expected to reign supreme, it was Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem who threw a wrench into the works with a record-shattering performance.

Now, the big question is: How do these javelin juggernauts keep their edge?
So, are you ready for a diet face-off between two javelin giants?

Neeraj Chopra Arshad Nadeem Food Diet Comparision

Arshad Nadeem's Desi Diet: A Recipe for Strength

Arshad Nadeem's rise from modest beginnings to Olympic stardom isn't just about raw talent, it's also about the food on his plate. According to a report by the Indian Express, despite his father's humble income of Rs 400-500 a day, he made sure Arshad never missed out on his power-packed essentials: Milk and ghee. These traditional staples were as integral to Nadeem's diet as his training sessions.

Nadeem himself spills the beans on his culinary choices, stating, "I totally have a desi diet. Desi Murgi (chicken), Desi Anda (egg), Desi Ghee. Agar uske saath lassi hoo jaae to best hai (If I had Lassi along with it, then it's the best)."

It's clear that Nadeem's diet is as rooted in tradition as his throws are in technique. Early on, he was a sports enthusiast, dabbling in cricket and football, which helped build his stamina and strength. All these ingredients simmered together to create the powerhouse athlete we see today.

Neeraj Chopra's Balanced Plate

Neeraj Chopra, the silver medallist of the Paris Olympics and Tokyo Champion, is known for his meticulous approach to fitness. But don't let that fool you-he knows how to indulge without losing his edge.

Chopra's daily diet is a well-oiled machine designed to keep his body fat around 10%. Mornings kick off with a hearty breakfast of fruits, yoghurt, oats, egg whites, and bread, washed down with juice or coconut water. For lunch, it's a balanced mix of curd, rice, pulses, veggies, grilled chicken, and salad. Snacks during training sessions include chia seeds, bananas, and fresh juice-fuel for a high-performance engine.

Dinner sees a departure from carbs, with a focus on vegetables, salads, and proteins. He said, "For dinner, I avoid carbs, opting for vegetables, salads, and various sources of protein. Before bedtime, I have milk, dates, and sometimes jaggery".

Interestingly, Neeraj wasn't always a fan of fish. Until 2016, he was a strict vegetarian. However, a stint in Portland, USA, where vegetarian options were scarce, prompted him to include salmon in his diet for a protein boost.

Ergo, there you have it - a diet showdown for the ages between two athletes who know that success doesn't just come from talent, but also from what you put on your plate. Whether it's desi power or a carefully balanced meal plan, Chopra and Nadeem prove that when it comes to sports, you truly are what you eat. And, if all else fails, there's always room for a cheat meal or two - even champions need to indulge every now and then!
