Neeraj Chopra beats Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem, then wins hearts with 'million dollar' act

India's golden boy Neeraj Chopra got back to his winning best in the World Athletics Championship on Sunday (August 27). The coveted Javelin thrower won the Gold with a monumental throw of 88.17 metres.

After an initial foul in his first attempt, Chopra got to his best in his second attempt and kept the lead for the entirety of the Final. And with that, Chopra got the better of Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem, who finished 2nd with his season-best throw of 87.82 metres.

Nadeem won the Commonwealth Games beating Neeraj, but it was the Indian champion who got better of the Pakistani again. Czechia thrower Jakub Vadlejch secured the Bronze medal with a throw of 86.67 m.

After winning the title, Neeraj Chopra was in joy and was wrapped in the Indian flag. He was seen posing with Vadlejch with the respective flags attached with them. And then Neeraj did a heartfelt thing that won the hearts of the internet.

Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem was standing alone without any flag as the Pakistani javelin thrower couldn't find one. Neeraj, who had shared an earlier hug with his counterpart, saw it and invited Nadeem to have photographs.

The pair stood posing for pictures with the Indian flag behind them. This million-dollar act from Neeraj has won the social media platforms and the internet as people across borders have hailed the Indian athlete for his amazing show of support and sportsmanship.

"Incredible gesture. That is India. That is humanity," one user wrote on social media.

Chopra now becomes only the 2nd Indian athlete to have a medal at both the Olympics and the World championships. The Haryana-born Javelin thrower has been an excellent servant of his game and will be aiming to reach greater heights in the coming days.

There were two other Indian throwers in the Final but they couldn't finish in the podium positions. Kishore Jena (best 84.77 m) finished 5th whereas DP Manu (best 84.14 m) ended up in the 6th position.
