Neeraj Chopra narrowly missed out on securing the Diamond League Finals 2024 title in Brussels, finishing second by a razor-thin margin of just 0.01 meters. His best throw of the night, 87.86 meters, came on his third attempt, falling just short of Anderson Peters' winning throw of 87.87 meters, which he achieved on his very first attempt.
Chopra, who began the competition with an impressive throw of 86.82 meters, quickly positioned himself among the top contenders. However, Peters, known for his dominance in the javelin circuit, set the tone early with his opening throw that barely edged Chopra's third attempt.

The Indian star followed his first throw with an 83.94-meter second attempt, slightly below his usual standards, which put him behind in the rankings.
Despite consistently strong performances, Neeraj Chopra, whose season best is 89.49m while personal best is 89.94m, couldn't breach the 88-meter mark to overtake Peters. His 83.30-meter throw in the fifth attempt further solidified his second-place finish. Peters, who maintained his lead throughout, threw 86.96 meters in his second attempt and followed it up with 85.85 and 84.11 meters in the fourth and fifth attempts, respectively, showing remarkable consistency.
Julian Weber of Germany secured the third spot with his best throw of 85.97 meters, achieved on his first attempt. Weber struggled to keep pace with the top two, with his later attempts falling significantly short, his final throw being 77.75 meters.
This is the back-to-back third event where Neeraj Chopra settled for the second spot since the Paris Olympics, where he took the silver medal behind Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem while Anderson Peters finished ahead of him at the Laussane Diamond League last month.
