India's javelin star Neeraj Chopra secured a thrilling victory at the Paris leg of the 2025 Diamond League on Saturday, producing a remarkable throw of 88.16 meters to claim the top podium spot. The effort, which came on his very first attempt of the evening, proved sufficient to outclass his biggest rival, Germany's Julian Weber.
Weber, who had pipped Chopra to the gold in the previous two Diamond League meets in Doha and Poland, managed a best effort of 87.88 meters-also in his opening round. However, he could not better that mark in his remaining attempts, leaving Chopra's throw untouched at the top.

Brazil's Mauricio Luiz da Silva delivered a strong performance to finish third with a best throw of 86.62 meters, which came in the third round. Meanwhile, Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago placed fourth with an effort of 81.66 meters.
After his opening 88.16m throw, Chopra followed it up with a decent 85.10m on his second attempt. However, his next three efforts were marked as fouls. Despite this, the reigning Olympic champion remained in control of the competition thanks to his explosive start.
This win marks Chopra's first major victory of the 2025 season. He had started his campaign with a gold at the Potch Invitational in South Africa, throwing 84.52 meters. But in both Doha and the Janusz Kusociński Memorial in Poland, he finished second to Weber despite throwing an outstanding 90.23m in Doha-his personal best.
Saturday's win not only breaks the German's star recent streak but also reaffirms Chopra's status as one of the sport's elite. The 27-year-old displayed composure and determination, showing why he remains a dominant force on the global stage.
With this victory, Chopra gains crucial momentum as the Diamond League season progresses and eyes more podium finishes in the lead-up to the World Championships later this year.
