New champ Vishnu gets wild card along with Prakash, Salva Vidal

Chennai, Dec 24 (UNI) The generation-next will once again take the centre-stage at Chennai Open 2008, beginning on December 31, as two young Indians and a rising Spanish talent were today awarded wild cards to the main draw.

An official release here said the wild cards to the main draw of the 460,000 dollar prize money event, have been given to Indians Prakash Amritraj, the newly-crowned grass court champion Vishnuvardhan of Hyderabad and a rising Spanish star Bartolome Salva Vidal.

The tournament, in its 13th year, has always provided opportunities to young talents to showcase their skills against international stars.

Another youngster, 13-year-old tennis prodigy, Yuki Bhambri of Delhi has been awarded a wild card for the qualifying rounds to be held on Decemebr 29 and 30.

While Prakash would look forward to put up a good show, Salva Vidal, popularly known as 'Tomeo', hailing from the land of Carlos Moya and Rafael Nadal, will be making his second appearance in Chennai.

He made his debut on the ATP tour as a wild card here last year.

He also partnered Rafael Nadal and was the runners-up in the doubles.

Tomeo is an exciting prospect and has been presented another opportunity for some consistent performance in the ITF and Challenger events.

Prakash said, ''This year's field is the toughest. But I am looking forward to give my best playing alongside Nadal, Malisse, Baghdatis, Moya, Youzhny and others.'' UNI
