New Delhi, Nov 26: Ankushita Boro is the new kid on the block in the Indian boxing fraternity. The girl has already ensured a medal (64kg category) in the World Youth Boxing championship by reaching in the finals.

Ankushita lives in a remote village that is around 200 kilometers from Tejpur in Assam. Her father is a primary school teacher in that village but he does not get the salary every month.

Naturally, without any salary Ankushita’s family faces dire financial distress. They are too poor that it becomes almost impossible for them to pay their house rent.

Her mother Ranjita Boro told MyKhel over phone, “I have joined a local non-government organization (NGO) but there also I do not get paid every month.”

Ankushita’s sisters try to earn some money from knitting sweaters but that effort has not yet given them a monetary relief.

Amidst the condition, the family members of Ankushita are pleased with at her success. The 17-year old girl while speaking over phone said, “I must have to win the gold in the final just for my family. I always dream of our own house and that could only be possible with the prize money after winning the title.”

Ankushita did not have any appetite for boxing in her early days. But her acute financial obstacles guided her cousin to take her to Golaghat SAI center and join boxing five years ago.

From there she was promoted to Assam Boxing Academy following an award of being the best boxer at the district level in 2013.

Tradeep Bora, the chief of Assam Boxing Academy also had a high appreciation for one of her best students.

He said, “I have been calling her the next Mary Kom for the last two years since she won a gold medal in the state boxing meet in 2015. Today she proved her mettle.”

Ankushita has also won a silver in Balkan International championship in last April. Now she is all set to win her first gold in World Youth Boxing.
