New Sports Policy within a month : Aiyar

New Delhi, June 5 (UNI) A draft for a comprehensive sports policy will be submitted before the Union Cabinet for approval within a month, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mani Shankar Aiyar said here today.

He told mediapersons that he was currently working on preparing the draft for a comprehensive sports policy. The new policy would emphasise on greater involvement of youths from the rural areas and preparing them for various sports.

Mr Aiyar pointed out that currently it was the responsibility of the States to promote sports for youth and the Centre confined itself to organising mega events. This had resulted in the youths from rural areas being ignored, he said.

Only five crore children in the country living in urban areas were currently enjoying sports facilities while as many as seventy two crore youths were deprived of this facility.This imbalance had to be corrected, he vowed.
