Nico Cornejo Plans To Put An End To Adrian Lee’s Hype With A Finish At ONE 168: Denver

By Mike Joseph

After Adrian Lee's prolific debut at ONE 167 in June, the world is watching as the 18-year-old looks to take the next step in his professional career. But Nico Cornejo only has one plan in mind: to spoil the party.

"The Steel City Kid" takes on the next generation of the Lee family in his promotional debut at ONE 168: Denver on Saturday, 7 September, inside Denver, Colorado's Ball Arena.

Cornejo may not have the decorated background of "The Phenom," but that's not something he's going to let faze him. The Colorado kid has his own pedigree as a wrestler, and he plans to let those credentials show when he sets foot in the Circle this weekend.

"I don't have the accomplishments of a state wrestler, anything like that. But man, if it's one thing you know for sure, you know Colorado wrestlers, we're tough. Don't mess with wrestlers from Colorado," Cornejo said.

"I'm gonna come out, I'm gonna match his hustle. My plan is to go out there, and if he wants to match striking for striking, we'll match striking for striking. If he wants to wrestle, we'll wrestle, too."

Entering ONE Championship at such a prolific event, Cornejo plans to make the most of the opportunity when the bell rings. The 35-year-old boasts a professional record of 2-0, with both wins coming by TKO on the American circuit.

He knows he will shock the world if he can earn his third straight stoppage over a rising superstar in Lee next week - and that's exactly what he's coming to do.

"He is a talented kid. I will not take that away from him. I've seen his record. I've seen a couple of his videos, and he does put in the work. But hey, so do I, too," Cornejo said.

"I'm looking for that KO or the TKO. You know, if I get a submission, I get a submission. Either way, I'm finishing the fight."
