Nine new national records set during junior meet

Jamshedpur, Sep 3 (UNI) Nine new national records were set during 20th national inter zonal junior athletics championship in which Tamil Nadu emerged as overall champion and Uttar Pradesh stood second.

The three-day event, held at the JRD Tata sporting complex here, concluded last evening.

The new national records (all in under-18 category) are - Long jump (Boys) (7.35 metres), Ankit Jain (Madhya Pradesh), 110 metre staple chase (Boys) (14.12 seconds), Anil Soren (West Bengal), Shot put throw (Boys) (19.91 metres), Jasdeep Singh ( Punjab), Pole Vault (Boys) (4.25 metres), Umesh Yadav (Uttar Pradesh), Octathelon (Boys) (5,458 points), Arun Kumar (Kerala), Hammer throw (Boys) (70.29 metres), Izaz Ahmed (Uttar Pradesh), Staple chase 100 metres (Girls) (14.04 seconds), G Gayatri ( Tamilnadu), 200 meters race (Girls) (24.87 seconds), Shravaninand (Orissa) and Hammer throw (Girls) (50.46 metres), Kanika Kumari (Delhi).

Tamil Nadu bagged a total of 54 medals (23 gold, 20 silver and 11 bronze) to become overall champion. Uttar Pradesh with 34 (15 gold, 11 silver and 8 bronze) was runner-up while Haryana stood third with 12 gold , 10 silver and 13 bronze.
