In a remarkable display of talent, Indian women boxers excelled at the U19 Asian Boxing Championships 2025 in Bangkok. Nisha and Muskan secured gold medals in their respective categories, while five others earned silver, on Sunday (August 10).
Nisha's victory came after a strong performance against China's Sirui Yang, where she dominated the final round to win 4:1. Muskan followed with an aggressive strategy to defeat Kazakhstan's Ayazhan Ermek with a 3:2 split decision.

These wins contributed to India's impressive medal tally and highlight India's growing prominence in continental boxing alongside nations like Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and China.
The championships provided a platform for India's young talents to compete against Asia's best. India fielded 40 boxers across U19 and U22 categories, showcasing both seasoned champions and emerging talents from the domestic circuit. This strategic mix aimed to maximise medal prospects.
Among other contenders, Vini faced Sevara Mamatova of Uzbekistan in the 60kg final but couldn't secure gold. Arinda Akimoto of Japan defeated Nisha in the 65kg category with a 4:1 scoreline. Despite these setbacks, the Indian team demonstrated resilience and skill throughout the competition.
In higher weight divisions, Aarti Kumari (75kg) lost to China's Tongtong Gu. Kritika Wasan (80kg) narrowly missed victory against Kazakhstan's Kuralay Yeginbaikyzy with a 2:3 result. Parchi Tokas (80+kg) also faced a close defeat by Sobirakhon Shakhobidinova of Uzbekistan with the same margin.
The ongoing U19 and U22 Asian Boxing Championships are crucial for India's rising stars to prove themselves on an international stage. With three more Indian men competing in finals later that day, India was assured of 13 medals in the U22 category, with five boxers vying for gold on Monday.
