Nishant Dev Aims To Rewrite Indian Boxing History At Paris Olympics

Nishant's road to Paris hasn't been easy. He made waves in 2021 by reaching the quarterfinals of the World Championships and later clinching bronze in Tashkent. His qualification for Paris came after a decisive victory at the World Olympic Boxing Qualification Tournament in Bangkok in May 2024, where he defeated Moldova’s Vasile Cebotari.

Training plays a pivotal role in Nishant's preparations. He emphasised, "Training at IIS has been crucial. The sports science team there helped me understand my body better, guiding me on fitness routines and dietary discipline."

Addressing challenges in his training, the Karnal boxer explained, "I've focused on improving stamina and body balance. Adjusting my diet has been key, cutting out sweets and oily foods to stay in peak shape."

Looking ahead to Paris, he remains undaunted by the competition. "The 71 kg category will feature top contenders like Omari Jones and Nikolai Terteryan," he acknowledged. "But I believe in my abilities. Every opponent is just another challenge to overcome."

With just weeks left before the Olympics, Nishant is honing his skills in Germany. "I'm training hard here in Saarbrucken, sparring with boxers from around the world," he shared. "Playing Uno with fellow athletes helps me unwind during downtime, keeping focused and avoiding distractions."

When asked about his aspirations for Paris, Nishant's determination shone through. "My personal target is to elevate that bronze to gold," he declared. "I draw inspiration from Mayweather's journey—his undefeated spirit fuels my belief that I can achieve greatness in boxing."

As Nishant Dev embarks on his Olympic debut, his journey symbolizes hope and resilience for Indian boxing. With unwavering dedication and a clear vision, he stands poised to make history in Paris.
