London, Aug 1: India's Abhinav Bindra, who failed to qualify for the finals of 10M Air rifle event on Monday, has said there is no shame in losing when you have given your best.

Two days after Gagan Narang won a bronze medal for India in the same event as Bindra participated, everyone have started talking about Abhinav Bindra and his inability to defend his Gold medal at Beijing Olympics.

According to doctors, Bindra had undergone a lasik surgery as he was using spectacles before. The doctors had even predicted that the ace shooter would not win a medal this time around as it would be difficult for Bindra to aim correctly.

Bindra failed to qualify for the finals having secured 594, five short of the highest score in the qualification round, finished at a shocking 16th, as another Indian Gagan Narang who managed to stick on advanced to the finals and also won a bronze medal for India, which happens to be the first medal at London Olympics for the country.

Bindra also expressed his disappointment after the event, as he said, "Obviously, I am disappointed but such is life," during an interaction at Games Village before leaving for India.

Though there were many expectations on Bindra, dreams were shattered when the 29-year-old failed to make it to the finals of the 10M air rifle event on Monday.

"Let us face it, you can't win all the time but there is no shame in not getting what you want as long as you give your best to achieve that," he added.

"I could have taken the easy way out. That is, if I had retired after Beijing. I was on high but I decided to continue."

"Sports teaches you many things in life. There are highs and lows in life. But I won't consider it as low because I tried my best."
