Lando Norris Maintains Focus Amid Championship Talks Following Brazilian Grand Prix Win

Lando Norris is determined to maintain focus amid growing speculation about his first Formula One title after winning the Brazilian Grand Prix. Norris secured his seventh victory of the season in Sao Paulo, finishing ahead of Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli and Red Bull's Max Verstappen. This win extended his lead in the Drivers' Championship by 24 points over McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri, who finished fifth.

Norris had a remarkable weekend, also winning the sprint race to increase his advantage over Piastri by nine points before the Grand Prix. This achievement places him among an elite group of drivers, including Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen, Sebastian Vettel, and Michael Schumacher, who have finished on the podium at least 17 times in a single season.

With only three races and one sprint remaining, Norris is on the brink of overcoming last year's disappointment to become a world champion. However, he remains grounded. "Just ignore everyone that talks about you and just focus on yourself," Norris told Sky Sports. He praised McLaren for providing a competitive car and emphasised their relentless efforts both on and off the track.

Norris acknowledged that they might not have been the fastest on track that day but was pleased with the victory nonetheless. "To be honest, I didn't think we were the quickest out there on track today, so I'm glad to take home the win," he said.

Norris remains cautious about Verstappen as a potential title contender after the Dutchman's resurgence put him back in contention for a fifth consecutive championship. Verstappen delivered an impressive performance in Interlagos, securing third place despite starting from the pit lane due to engine changes and setup adjustments.

This marked only the eighth instance in F1 history where a driver starting from the pit lane finished in the top three. The last occurrence was Hamilton at the Hungarian Grand Prix in 2014. Verstappen's recovery saw him climb to 13th by lap seven and challenge Antonelli for second place late in the race.

Norris Reflects on Performance

Norris expressed mixed feelings about his win, acknowledging Verstappen's speed during the race. "It's a great win, but to be honest, seeing how quick Max [Verstappen] was today, I'm pretty disappointed we weren't quicker," he admitted. He plans to discuss with his team why they couldn't match Verstappen's pace.

The championship battle remains intense with little room for error as Norris focuses on maintaining his lead. "There's not a long way to go, but it can change so quickly as we've seen today," he noted. His strategy involves staying focused and ignoring distractions while continuing to push forward.
