Norris And Piastri Disqualified From Las Vegas Grand Prix Amid Technical Infringements

Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri faced disqualification from the Las Vegas Grand Prix due to technical violations. Initially, they finished second and fourth, respectively. However, upon inspection, their cars' skid blocks were found to be below the required depth. This decision allowed Max Verstappen to tie with Piastri in the standings and close in on Norris, who leads by 24 points with two races left.

Verstappen's victory in Las Vegas marked his 69th career win and sixth of the season. He became the first driver to win twice in Las Vegas, having also triumphed there in 2023. The Dutchman led from start to finish for the 18th time overall and fourth time this year. His performance has kept him on every podium since the summer break.

With a maximum of 58 points still available, Verstappen remains hopeful for a fifth consecutive championship. The upcoming races in Qatar and Abu Dhabi are crucial. Qatar will feature a sprint weekend, offering additional points opportunities. Verstappen's dominance was evident as he overtook Norris at turn one and extended his lead significantly.

Norris narrowly held off George Russell to finish second before disqualification. McLaren argued that unforeseen damage might have affected their cars' floors, but the FIA dismissed this claim. They cited unexpected porpoising and limited testing as factors but upheld the penalty due to regulatory constraints.

Russell's teammate Kimi Antonelli benefited from McLaren's disqualifications, securing his third podium of the season. Charles Leclerc of Ferrari, Carlos Sainz of Williams, Isack Hadjar of Racing Bulls, and Sauber's Nico Hulkenberg all finished ahead of Lewis Hamilton. Hamilton described this season as his worst after finishing tenth but later moved up to eighth.

The revised top ten saw Verstappen leading, followed by Russell and Antonelli. Leclerc took fourth place while Sainz secured fifth. Hadjar finished sixth with Hulkenberg seventh. Hamilton ended up eighth after adjustments, followed by Esteban Ocon and Ollie Bearman completing the top ten.

In terms of championship standings, Norris leads with 390 points while Piastri and Verstappen are tied at 366 each. In the constructors' standings, McLaren holds a commanding lead with 756 points over Mercedes' 431 and Red Bull's 391.
