Norris And Piastri Determined To Move Forward After Las Vegas Disqualifications

Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri faced a setback after being disqualified from the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Their disqualification, due to excessive skid-block wear, cost them valuable points in the title race against Max Verstappen. Norris had started on pole but was overtaken by Verstappen at the first turn, finishing second before the disqualification. Piastri ended up fourth before facing the same fate.

McLaren apologised to both drivers after the race, clarifying there was no intention to break rules and citing mitigating circumstances. With a sprint weekend in Qatar followed by the Abu Dhabi finale, both drivers are keen to move past this incident. They aim to maximise their performance with 58 points still available in the remaining races.

Norris expressed his frustration over losing significant points, acknowledging that they misjudged the car's balance. He stated, "A frustrating end to today. We had to do some managing towards the end of the race and now we know it was due to some issues with our car, which have unfortunately resulted in us being disqualified." Despite this setback, he is focused on delivering strong performances in Qatar.

Piastri shared similar sentiments about their performance shortfall. He remarked on how close the competition is and emphasised resetting focus for upcoming races. "With how close the grid is, we're always looking at where we can gain performance, and we didn't get it right this time," he said. Both drivers are determined to secure as many points as possible in tracks where they have previously excelled.

During the race, Norris received instructions over team radio to slow down during the final laps, nearly losing his position to George Russell. McLaren chose not to disclose specifics about his car's issues at that moment. Meanwhile, Piastri acknowledged his slim title chances even before disqualifications were confirmed.

Norris now leads Piastri by 24 points instead of 30 in the championship standings. Verstappen has caught up with Piastri for joint-second place. As they look ahead, both drivers are committed to preparing thoroughly for Qatar and Abu Dhabi, aiming for strong finishes to conclude their season positively.
