Lando Norris Secures Victory At Austrian Grand Prix While Piastri Finishes In Second Place

In a thrilling race at the Austrian Grand Prix, Lando Norris emerged victorious, narrowly defeating teammate Oscar Piastri. Max Verstappen's early crash set the stage for McLaren's strong performance.

Lando Norris emerged victorious at the Austrian Grand Prix, overcoming his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri in a thrilling race. The event was marked by an unexpected turn of events for Red Bull as Max Verstappen, the reigning Formula One world champion, crashed out on the first lap. This incident was caused by Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli, leading to Verstappen's frustration. Meanwhile, the McLaren duo capitalised on this opportunity to push for victory.

Piastri briefly overtook Norris on the 11th lap but was quickly countered by Norris. After both drivers made their pit stops on laps 52 and 53, McLaren allowed them to compete freely for the win. Despite a near-miss with Franco Colaptino and a close call with Fernando Alonso on the final lap, Norris managed to secure a crucial win in the championship battle. This victory came just two weeks after Norris crashed into Piastri at the Canadian Grand Prix.

Norris Triumphs at Austrian Grand Prix

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc completed the podium, while Lewis Hamilton finished fourth, providing a morale boost. George Russell secured fifth place, followed by former Red Bull driver Liam Lawson in sixth. Fernando Alonso finished seventh, narrowly ahead of Gabriel Bortoleto, whom he manages. Red Bull's disappointing day concluded with Yuki Tsunoda finishing last among the 16 drivers who completed the race.

Williams' Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz were unable to finish; Sainz's car caught fire at the end of the formation lap. McLaren celebrated their success with their 53rd one-two finish in F1 history and their fourth in 2025 alone. This achievement marks their best performance since 2007 when they last had four one-twos in a single season.

The race results saw Lando Norris taking first place, followed by Oscar Piastri and Charles Leclerc. Lewis Hamilton came fourth with George Russell in fifth position. Liam Lawson secured sixth place ahead of Fernando Alonso and Gabriel Bortoleto. Nico Hulkenberg finished ninth while Esteban Ocon rounded out the top ten.

In terms of championship standings, Oscar Piastri leads with 216 points, closely followed by Lando Norris with 201 points. Max Verstappen remains third with 155 points despite his early exit from this race. In the constructors' standings, McLaren leads comfortably with 417 points over Ferrari's 210 and Mercedes' 209.

Red Bull faced disappointment as Yuki Tsunoda extended his streak without a podium finish to 98 races. He now shares this record with Pedro Diniz for most races without reaching the top three positions.

The Austrian Grand Prix showcased McLaren's strength while highlighting Red Bull's challenges on home soil. With several races remaining in this season, teams will continue striving for success amidst fierce competition on track.
