Carlsen faced USA's Fabiano Caruana, currently ranked number 4 in the world, in a crucial match. From the outset, Carlsen took control and gained an edge as they approached the endgame. Despite Caruana's strong defence, Carlsen's persistent pressure eventually led to his victory.

Gukesh D's Strategic Play

Meanwhile, Gukesh, the reigning world champion, played against Wei Yi from China. An early mistake by the Chinese allowed Gukesh to seize control. Gukesh showcased sharp attacking skills, steering the game into a winning position and securing a full point with precision.

The match between Hikaru Nakamura of the USA, ranked World No.2, and Indian GM Arjun Erigaisi, number two in the latest FIDE rankings, concluded in a draw. However, Nakamura triumphed in the Armageddon game, earning crucial extra points.

Norway Chess Women's Tournament

The Norway Chess Women's tournament also witnessed dramatic shifts in standings after all three games ended decisively. Vaishali Rameshbabu and Sarasadat Khademalsharieh engaged in a wild encounter. Sara capitalised on her time advantage to secure victory with precise play.

Ju Wenjun faced Anna Muzychuk in another thrilling match. Muzychuk sacrificed an exchange early to gain momentum. A critical defensive error by Ju allowed Muzychuk to clinch a convincing win.

Koneru Humpy's Challenge

Koneru Humpy competed against Lei Tingjie in the final classical game of the day. Although Koneru initially had the upper hand, a significant mistake shifted the momentum to Lei Tingjie. Lei capitalised on this error with clinical play to earn a crucial win.
