Norway Chess 2024: The 12th edition of the prestigious Norway Chess tournament began Monday (May 27) in Stavanger, Norway, bringing together some of the world's top chess players.
Popularly known as 'Wimbledon of Chess’, this year's event is particularly special as it also features the inaugural Norway Chess Women's Tournament, emphasising equal participation in the sport.

India’s Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu, ranked 14th in the world, is a major highlight of the tournament. He will face Alireza Firouzja of France in his opening match.
His sister, Vaishali Rameshbabu, will compete in the women's tournament, taking on reigning World Champion Ju Wenjun of China on the opening day.
Additionally, World No.2 Koneru Humpy from India will compete against Pia Cramling of Sweden.
The tournaments are broadcast live in Norway on TV 2 sport and TV 2 Play. For international audiences, the games are streamed online in English at chess.com.
The tournament follows a Double Round Robin format.
