Nothing suspicious about Samuels' cell conversation in Nagpur
Nagpur, Mar 2 (UNI) The City Police here clarified there was nothing suspicious in the conversation that West Indies cricketer Marlon Samuels had while using a cell phone in Nagpur during the first one-day international (ODI) match against India in January.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Amitesh Kumar told UNI that Samuels had used the mobile to make calls to his family in West Indies. ''Our investigations revealed nothing suspicious about the conversation that Samuels had,'' he added.
Mr Kumar said the mobile was given to Samuels as part of the hospitality extended to the carribbean team during its stay in Nagpur, but declined to divulge who had given it to him or in whose name the SIM (subscriber identification module) card was registered.
''We don't want to drag anyone unnecessarily into the controversy,'' the DCP said.
The information was passed on to the representatives of the International Cricket Council (ICC) when the police yesterday handed over the recording and transcript of the conversation that was said to have taken place between Samuels and alleged bookie Mukesh Kochar before the game here.
