Now Bagan trounce Port 7-0

Kolkata, Aug 8 (UNI) Mohun Bagan, in an apparent race with East Bengal to drub the opposition, today decimated Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) 7-0, moving into the second spot of the Calcutta Football League.

Yesterday East Bengal defeated Mohameddan Sporting 6-2.

Mohun Bagan now has seven points from three matches, which kept it two points behind the league topper East Bengal.

Mohun Bagan's Brazilian striker Jose Barreto struck twice to be the top scorer of the match. The home side surged into the lead in the 26th minute when Barreto struck from a Rauf Khan pass.

The lead was doubled in the 37th minute as Lalkamal Bhowmick struck from a long ranger.

Barreto and P Lalawampuia scored two more goals in the last four minutes of the first session help Bagan lead 4-0 at the break.

Barreto's second goal was an artist's work as he finished with flair after being set up from the centre line.

In the second session Dharamjit Singh (51st minute), Shanmugam Venkatesh (53rd) struck in quick succession to make it 6-0, before KoPT defender Prasanta Das misguided an attempted clearence into own goal in the 75th minute to complete the Bagan scoreline.
