Now, Italians point finger at Man U over 'poaching' players

London, Sep 10 (ANI): Manchester United is confident that they will not be brought to book by FIFA after being embroiled in another alleged poaching controversy.

Following Le Havre's accusations over the signing of young French star Paul Pogba, Fiorentina are now considering asking FIFA to look into United's signing of 16-year-old Italian defender Michele Fornasier.

In Italy, players under 18 are not allowed to sign a professional contract, so Fornasier was effectively a free agent. But United expect to pay a compensation fee set by FIFA to Fiorentina for their development costs.

This was the procedure they followed with Lazio for Federico Macheda and Roma for Davide Petrucci, the Daily Express reports.

Last night, FIFA confirmed that no formal investigation into the case has been opened because they were still waiting for the relevant documentation from Fiorentina. (ANI)
