Offshore sailing race flagged off

Kochi, Jan 19 (PTI) The third edition of Offshore sailingrace, under the aegis of Offshore Sailing Club of India, wastoday flagged off by Vice Admiral K N Sushil, Flag OfficerCommanding in Chief, Southern Naval Command.

A total of five teams, including contingents from thethree Commands of the Navy, Andaman and Nicobar Tri ServicesCommand and an India Army team, are participating in the race,a naval press release said.

The 24 foot yachts with a crew of five each would touchAndroth island in Lakshadweep and sail back to Kochi. Thetotal distance traversed by the yachts on completion of thegruelling race would be about 400 nautical miles.

Safety and other administrative support to the teams willbe provided by the Southern Naval Command ships and aircraft.

Cochin Shipyard is the main sponsor of the event.
