Olympian Cheema wins gold in Police Games

Chandigarh, Oct 22 (UNI) Rustam-e-Hind Olympian Palwinder Singh Cheema of Punjab Police expectedly claimed the gold medal by defeating Surinder Singh of Central Industrial Security Force in the 120 kg final of the 57th All India Police Sports 'Wrestling Cluster' Games at Madhuban (Karnal) today. The Commonwealth and Asian Games medallist, Patiala-based Cheema dominated the bout.

It may be recalled that Cheema had challenged The Great Khali of World Wrestling Entermainment to fight him under the International Wrestling Federation (FILA) rules.

Jagdish Kaliraman, son of famous Haryana wrestler Chandgi Ram and Mukhtiar Singh of Central Industrial Security Force got bronze.

Jagdish was representing Uttar Pradesh Police.

Yashpal Solanki of Punjab Police, who represented India in the World Cup Judo Championship in Brazil last year claimed the first gold in judo by overcoming Samunder Singh from Border Security Force in 100 kg final. Jatinder Alumbyan of Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and Narender Singh of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) got bronze.

Sandhya Rani of Central Reserve Police Force lifted 70 kg in snatch and 97 in jerk for a total lift of 167 kg to win gold in the 48 kg women's weightlifting competition.of the Promila of Haryana Police had to satisfy herself with sivler with a total lift of 125 kg.

Supriya Patil of Maharashtra Police lifted 122 kg for bronze.

Three knockout verdicts were recorded in the boxing ring. Releasing powerful punches Amandeep of Punjab Police knocked out Mong Dang of Nagaland Police in the 57-60 kg class bout.

In the 64-69 kg section Eymain Ali of Border Security Force was seen in his ferocious best as he scored a Kayo verdict against Abhimanyu Bohora (Orissa Police). Sultan Tabrej Alam (West Bengal Police) also floored Padman Kumhapatra (Orissa Police) in 69-75 kg class.
