Kiran Pahal's journey at the Paris Olympics 2024 has been a rollercoaster, marked by determination and the challenge of facing formidable opponents.
Turning 24 on Monday (August 5), Kiran ran the women's 400m heat, clocking 52.51 seconds, which was below her personal and season's best of 50.92 seconds.

Despite finishing seventh in her heat, she now has a second chance through the repechage round, introduced for the first time in athletics at the Paris Olympics.
Kiran's heat was fiercely competitive. Marileidy Paulino from the Dominican Republic dominated the race with a time of 49.42 seconds, showcasing her exceptional speed and earning a direct qualification spot.
Aaliyah Butler of the USA finished second with a time of 50.52 seconds, securing her place in the semifinals. Susanne Gogl-Walli from Austria also advanced directly with a personal best time of 50.67 seconds.
In the repechage round, Kiran will compete against other strong contenders who narrowly missed direct qualification. Sharlene Mawdsley from Ireland, Victoria Ohuruogu from Great Britain, and Ella Onojuvwevwo from Nigeria-each ran impressive races.
Mawdsley clocked 50.71 seconds, Victoria Ohuruogu finished in 50.93 seconds, and Onojuvwevwo recorded 51.65 seconds. All three athletes are seasoned runners with strong track records, making Kiran's task even more challenging.
The athletes who have already qualified directly to the semifinals are some of the world's best. Amber Anning from Great Britain clocked an impressive 49.68 seconds, followed by the Netherlands' Lieke Klaver with 49.96 seconds. Jamaica's Nickisha Pryce also showed strong form with a time of 50.02 seconds.
Kiran's path to the semifinals is undeniably tough, but it is not impossible. The repechage offers her a fresh opportunity to capitalize on her strengths and experience, however, he personal best also might not be sufficient for her to get a podium finish, unless she pulls off a massive upset.
