Olympics 2024: Lakshya Sen, PV Sindhu among Athletes to Train in Europe after India Govt. Approval

The Indian Sports Ministry has approved foreign training for Olympic-bound Indian athletes for the upcoming Paris Olympics 2024.

In a media release, the Ministry of Sports of India has accepted the request to bear the cost of two Indian badminton stars Lakshya Sen and PV Sindhu, along with a few other athletes.

Lakshya Sen and PV Sindhu get Approval for Foreign Training

Shuttlers Lakshya Sen and P V Sindhu are set to train in Europe, thanks to the Sports Ministry's Mission Olympic Cell (MOC). Sen will be in Marseille, France, with his team from July 8 to 21. Sindhu heads to Saarbrucken, Germany for over a month of training. Both aim to sharpen their skills before the Paris Olympic Games which starts from July 26.

"MOC approved their funding their airfare, boarding/lodging cost, local transportation charges, Visa Fees, shuttlecocks expenses under the Ministry's Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS)," the ministry said in a release on Thursday (May 23).

Sen will be training at The Halle des Sports Parsemain seeks to boost his performance in men's singles. Meanwhile, Sindhu will fine-tune her game at the Hermann-Neuberger Sportschule. Both locations are known for their top-notch facilities.

Funds for Sreeja Akula, Tisha and Two More

The MOC didn't stop there. It also green-lighted funds for other athletes. Table tennis player Sreeja Akula and archer Tisha Punia got support for new equipment. Golfer Aditi Ashok and swimmer Aryan Nehra received help for competition travels.

"TOPS will fund their airfare, accommodation cost, local transportation cost and Aryan's equipment and Aditi's caddy fee," the release added.

The assistance spans various sports, highlighting India's holistic approach to Olympic preparations. From badminton to swimming, the aim is to ensure athletes have what they need to excel. As the Paris Olympics approach, the concerned athletes will be expected to leave no stone unturned and give their best for the glory.
