Paris officially got its Olympic torch flamed after a four-hour Opening Ceremony which traversed the entire city and depicted many tales. From the athletes sailing on River Seine to the stories of Gender equality and the yesteryears, the curtain raiser of Olympics 2024 had it all, and perhaps it had too much.
It was a rainy afternoon and the evening brought more rains as the athletes were seen wearing raincoats as they got introduced while sailing in the river. A ten-fold story was told which covered from the colonial struggles to the message of global peace of recent times.

There were performances from Lady Gaga, Celine Dion and other notable artists. The cabaret dances on the banks of Seine along with an array of cultural display were also a point of attraction. But it has received an overall negative verdict from the viewers, who complained of exaggeration and slammed the IOC for exaggeration and waywardness. Many also felt sorry for the athletes who had to be present amid rain.
Cricket presenter Alan Wilkins criticized the IOC and slammed it as the 'worst ever' opening ceremony.
"Is this the worst ever opening ceremony of an Olympic Games? Absolute garbage to deliver to a global audience," he wrote on X. In reply, New Zealand pacer Mitchell Mclenaghan agreed with Wilkins' thoughts.
The viewers from India and Pakistan also agreed unanimously to it and expressed their discontentment over the ceremony.
There were a few gory and explicit visuals and this fan trolled the Olympics for that. There were indeed a few scenes which may have required the viewer's discretion.
Another strong opinion against the opening ceremony.
This user felt bad for the athletes, who had to endure rain and had to be present to watch the show.
It was mostly a case of exaggeration in a platform such as the Olympics. The geopolitical issues took the front seat which kind of marred the essence of sports. Some of the performances were wayward while the others were quite excellent. The Olympic Torch relay had a magnificent touch at the end which involved 24 athletes before the cauldron was flamed.
There were accusations of religious blasphemy as well regarding some acts, but moreover, it was mostly a directional derailment which perhaps irked the spectators.
