By Triyasha Chatterjee

Manu Bhaker is set to compete in the women's 25m pistol final at the Paris Olympics 2024 on Saturday, 3 August, at 1 PM IST. Having already secured two bronze medals in the 10m air pistol individual and mixed team events, the young shooter from Haryana is now aiming to add another accolade to her impressive Olympic performance.

Bhaker qualified for the final by finishing second in the qualification round, achieving a remarkable score of 590-24x. This score placed her comfortably among the top eight shooters who advanced to the final, where the cut-off was set at 585.

Her consistent precision and rapid shooting scores of 294 and 296, respectively, reflect her exceptional form and focus. During the three series of precision rounds, which included 10 shots each, Manu Bhaker achieved scores of 87, 98, and 99. In the three series of rapid-fire stages, also consisting of 10 shots each, she posted scores of 100, 98, and 98.

Veronika Major of Hungary topped the qualification leaderboard with an impressive score of 592-28x, surpassing Bhaker by just two points. This score set a new European qualification record for the women's 25m pistol event.

What is the format of the 25m pistol event final at Paris Olympics 2024?

The 25m pistol event final consists of an elimination format. Shooters first engage in a series of five-shot rounds within a limited time, each round becoming progressively more challenging.

The lowest-scoring shooter after each series gets eliminated until only the top two remain to compete for gold and silver medals. This intense format tests both accuracy and composure under pressure.

India's Esha Singh, unfortunately, missed out on the final, finishing 18th with a score of 581-17x. However, all eyes are on Bhaker as she attempts to change the color of her medal in what promises to be an exhilarating contest.
