Olympics 2024: 'Sky is The Limit' - Reactions Poured in as Record-Breaking Armand Duplantis Wins Pole Vault Gold

Reactions poured in as Sweden's record-breaking Armand Duplantis claimed his second Olympic gold medal in the men's pole vault event in Paris Olympics 2024 at the Stade de France.

Duplantis raised the heat in the final on Monday (August 5) night breaking the men's pole vault Olympic and World record to get his hands on his on a second successive yellow metal at the Olympics.

Facing a challenge in the closing moments from United States' Sam Kendricks, the 24-year-old Swede, who is familiarly known as Mondo, blew away the competition, first to break the Olympic record.

In Rio 2016, Brazil's Thiago set the Olympic record by registering a jump of 6.03m. Duplantis beat the Olympic record by clearing 6.10m. The Swedish pole vaulter did not stop their as he raised the bar to break his own world record of 6.24m, which he set in the Xiamen Diamond League in April earlier this year.

While he missed his first two attempts in a busy evening session of athletics action, Duplantis set the new world record height of 6.25m in his third attempt with chants of 'Mondo' echoing throughout Stade de France.

He went towards the stand to celebrate the remarkable moment with his loved ones and was met with roars of applause from the crowd that witnessed the greatest jump in the history of the event at the Olympics. As the moment sinked in, fans on social media reacted.

"Armand Duplantis. Wohhhh. They say the Sky is the Limit. You took off into orbit with the top of the Eiffel Tower in sight. A performance that was flawless, spectacular and simply GIGANTIC and with plenty gas in the tank. Top of the list in highlights of the Games. Class apart," former India cricketer Ravi Shastri posted on X.

"Holy Smokes. Swedish 🇸🇪 superstar pole vaulter Armand Duplantis just broke the world record in Paris, clearing 6.25 meters. To go where no man has gone before. Congrats, Armand!" another user posted on X.

"It's hard to understand, honestly," Duplantis said. "If I don't beat this moment in my career, then I'm pretty OK with that. I don't think you can get much better than what just happened."

"For it to actually happen the way that it did and for me to put the right jump together at the right time, it's just, like, how do you explain it?" he said. "It's bigger than words for me."

"Mondo is an extraordinary jumper because of four factors," said America's Kendricks, who finished second. "One, he's got a great coach for a long time. He's had a lot of time to do it. He's got great equipment and understanding of the event. He's a fan of sport, and he's got God's hand on his back."

Overall, this was the ninth time Duplantis broke the world record at the age of just 24 years.
His gold medal triumph resonates with the remarkable run he has had in the past couple of major tournaments.

Duplantis has won a gold each in the past three World Championships and Paris and Tokyo Olympics. Kendricks was the closest to Duplantis and won the silver medal with a jump of 5.95m and Greece's Emmanouil Karalis settled for the bronze medal with a jump of 5.90m.
