ONE 171: Haggerty vs. Wei, Pacio vs. Brooks World Title Fights Announced For ONE Championship in Qatar

This week, ONE Championship announced two blockbuster headliners for its return to the Middle East. ONE 171: Qatar will take place at Lusail Sports Arena on 20 February, 2025. This will be the promotion's second live event in Qatar.

In the main event, Jonathan Haggerty puts his ONE Bantamweight Kickboxing World Championship on the line against dangerous Chinese kickboxing royalty Wei Rui. The co-main event features an epic ONE Strawweight MMA Word Title unification fight between divisional king Joshua Pacio and interim titleholder Jarred Brooks.

Haggerty claimed the vacant kickboxing crown by knocking out divisonal MMA king Fabricio Andrade. This marks the first defense of the title since. Haggerty has won six out of his last seven bouts. However, in his last encounter with Superlek Kiatmoo9, he lost his ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Title.

The Brit will be eager to return to the win column, but it's going to be a daunting task. His opponent in Wei made his promotional debut this year by defeating former ONE World Champion Hiroki Akimoto.

Wei, however, is a sanda specialist who holds an astonishing record of 70-3 and is on a 21-fight winning streak. He has won many titles in China as well as internationally. Now, he aims to become the first-ever Chinese Kickboxing World Champion in ONE.

In the co-main event, one of the most heated MMA rivalries of recent times will be settled inside the Circle. ONE Strawweight MMA World Champion Pacio takes on ONE Interim Strawweight MMA World Champion Brooks to unify the belts.

In December 2022, the American secured a convincing unanimous decision win against the Filipino to claim the strap. Their second fight took place at ONE 166: Qatar in 2024, where Pacio reclaimed the World Title via disqualification victory. He also suffered a knee injury that sidelined him ever since.

The controversial finish in Qatar earlier this year has made this rivalry even more intriguing for combat sports fans. Now, the same arena will settle this rivalry once and for all, and a new undisputed ONE Strawweight MMA World Champion will be crowned. Here is a look at the card:
