ONE 172: World Champion Tawanchai Reveals Winning Formula In Combat Sports

By Mike Joseph

Everyone who pursues a career in combat sports must ask themselves one important thing: How will I succeed? ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Champion Tawanchai PK Saenchai answers that inquiry with his experience.

On the path to possibly becoming a two-sport ONE World Champion, the 25-year-old superstar will clash with Japanese legend Masaaki Noiri for the ONE Interim Featherweight Kickboxing World Title at ONE 172: Takeru vs. Rodtang on 23 March at the iconic Saitama Super Arena in Japan.

Tawanchai has more than 160 bouts. Starting at the age of 7, he has become one of the most devastating knockout artists in the fighting world today. The 2018 Lumpinee Stadium Fighter of the Year award winner emphasized that to be successful, one must go all the way.

"If you want to go this route, you have to go all the way. Be diligent, disciplined, and focus on your goals. I want everyone to grit their teeth and be patient. Success will surely come," Tawanchai said.

"Don't be discouraged because combat sports can make you rich these days. You have to go all the way if you want to come this way."

The man with two unforgettable victories over the legendary Superbon won his first-ever fight in the sport with a left kick. Since then, he used his bone-crushing attack to claim many accolades along the way before joining ONE Championship in 2021.

His debut win against Sean Clancy with a picture-perfect head kick KO made him a global phenomenon. After suffering a razor-close loss in his second outing, Tawanchai is now riding a nine-fight win streak, claiming the ONE Muay Thai Featherweight World Title in the process.

Moving from Pattaya to Bangkok also changed the young superstar's life. He said that coming to the Thai capital meant he could earn good money - and he did. But arriving in ONE Championship made him a household name.

"When I moved to Bangkok, I felt that I could pursue a career in Muay Thai. I considered it as a way to make money because I was already well-known," the PK Saenchai Muaythaigym representative said.

"The point when I started to feel that I had become famous was when I won against Kulabdam (Sor Jor Piek Uthai) in three consecutive fights at Lumpinee Stadium. But I really became famous worldwide when I joined ONE."
