ONE Bantamweight Title Defence As Enkh-Orgil Baatarkhuu Faces Elbek Alyshov In Bangkok

Enkh-Orgil Baatarkhuu moves into his first ONE Bantamweight MMA World Title defence with a strong record and a personal story shaped far from the cage. The Mongolian champion faces unbeaten Elbek Alyshov in the main event of The Inner Circle 24 on Friday, July 31, at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok.

The bout will stream exclusively on live.onefc.com. Baatarkhuu, 37, represents Shandas MMA and Team Tungaa. He won the belt by submitting Fabricio Andrade in his last fight. His ONE record stands at 7-1, with five wins coming by finish.

From Khovd to the world stage

Before his rise in mixed martial arts, Baatarkhuu grew up in Khovd, Mongolia, in a traditional nomadic setting. He described childhood days spent herding sheep and goats, riding horses, fetching water from the river, and collecting dried cow dung for fuel.

"I grew up herding sheep and goats in the beautiful landscape, riding horses, fetching water from the river, and collecting dried cow dung as fuel. Just like any other Mongolian boy," Baatarkhuu said.

Early influence and family support

His interest in combat sports began at a young age, helped by action stars he watched on television. Baatarkhuu said Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and Arnold Schwarzenegger shaped his aims and made him want to build a strong, muscular body.

"I liked wrestling and fighting and wanted to be like my idols on TV, Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. I wanted to look like them. I wanted to be ripped," he said.

Baatarkhuu also credited his mother for backing his early taekwondo career. He said she took out a payday loan to pay for his travel to Ulaanbaatar for his first taekwondo competition while working as a nurse at the local hospital on a modest salary.
