ONE Championship Boss Chatri Sityodtong Teases Rodtang vs Haggerty Trilogy Fight

By Mike Joseph

ONE Championship's recently concluded ONE 172 delivered an electrifying show of martial arts. The fights were filled with fast-paced action and numerous memorable finishes. However, one performance that stood out was Rodtang Jitmuangnon's knockout of Takeru Segawa in under two minutes.

There were many concerns about whether Rodtang would make weight for this five-round flyweight kickboxing super-fight. The Thai megastar, however, successfully did so and looked shredded. When he entered the ring, the 27-year-old exuded confidence that resulted in a one-punch knockout.

Now, everyone believes "The Iron Man" is back to his old self and is wondering who he should face next. ONE Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong was asked during the post-event press conference about Rodtang's next fight. Here's what he had to say about Rodtang's next challenger.

"It's going to be [Jonathan] Haggerty. We're doing Haggerty versus Rodtang, [for the] next one. But of course, Rodtang has many fights for him now," Sityodtong said on Sunday, March 23. "You know, he can call his shots now, he'll fight anybody. Rodtang will fight anybody. But for Rodtang, I think he is going to fight Haggerty next in Muay Thai."

Rodtang and Haggerty share a long history. In 2019, the pair collided for the first time in the Brit's ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Title defense. They went to war for five intense and grueling rounds. There, the Jitmuangnon Gym athlete dethroned his rival to become the next champion.

Five months after their first encounter, they met again for a rematch in 2020. This time, Rodtang targeted Haggerty's body, ultimately shutting his opponent down inside three rounds to retain his title.

Since those consecutive losses, the 28-year-old Brit moved up to bantamweight and achieved two-sport glory. However, he lost his Muay Thai crown to Superlek Kiatmoo9 last year. Still, he remains the ONE Bantamweight Kickboxing World Champion.

Now, after Sityodtong announced the Rodtang vs Haggerty trilogy fight between these two bitter rivals, Haggerty took to social media to give his two cents on the matchup, and he is as game as they come. "[Six] years later we meet again! See you soon," Haggerty said. To which Rodtang responded, "Your belt looks nice. Let's measure it again."
