ONE Championship: Three Things To Know About Rising Featherweight Star Shamil Gasanov

Singapore, February 16: Shamil Gasanov may have only just arrived in ONE Championship, but his ascension into the rankings has caused a stir.

"The Cobra" returns later this month on Saturday (February 25) in ONE Fight Night 7: Lineker vs. Andrade II against his biggest foe yet in former two-division ONE World Champion Martin "The Situ-Asian" Nguyen.

With the Dagestani's sudden arrival, here are three things to know about the No. 5-ranked featherweight contender.

Undefeated In MMA Competition

As Gasanov enters his ninth year as a professional, the Rostov-on-Don native has been untouchable in mixed martial arts competition.

Boasting an impressive 13-0 record, Gasanov is not in the business of going the distance. In his thirteen fights, the 27-year-old has finished 11 of his opponents - nine of which have come by submission in dominant fashion.

To make himself even fiercer in the battle, the scrapper has also showcased his striking talents, serving up two knockouts on his resume.

Simply put - there is no easy fight with Gasanov, and his arrival in ONE has made that clear.

Decorated Grappling Star

His dominance in mixed martial arts isn't the only place he's found success. The rugged Russian holds prestigious accolades as a two-time BJJ European and World Champion as well as a European MMA Champion, too.

The pedigree he has developed over the course of his combat career has set him apart from many other featherweights and was a big factor in capturing ONE's attention.

He displayed his dominant grappling in his promotional debut against Kim Jae Woong last October at ONE on Prime Video 3, stopping his Korean opposition with a submission inside the first round, barely breaking a sweat in doing so. Later this month, he will look to do it again versus Nguyen.

Teammate of Vitaly Bigdash

Training out of Peresvet Fight Team, Gasanov isn't the only standout stemming from the camp. In his company is former ONE Middleweight World Champion Vitaly Bigdash, who has long been a contender amongst the big boys.

Having that experience of going for gold could prove a great utility for the young Gasanov to learn about from the middleweight titan as he nears the top of the ONE featherweight division.
