ONE Fight Night 10: What’s At Stake For Edgar Tabares Against Rodtang Jitmuangnon

Edgar Tabares is preparing for the biggest battle of his career on ONE Championship's biggest night when he challenges ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion Rodtang Jitmuangnon for the coveted gold on Saturday, 6 May.

The bout is scheduled for when ONE Championship travels to the United States for the first time to host the sold-out ONE Fight Night 10: Johnson vs. Moraes III at 1stBank Center in Colorado.

While Tabares may come off as a relative unknown to many combat sports fans, the 28-year-old cemented himself as a star on the rise in 2022 when he became the first Mexican to win the WBC Muay Thai International Championship. It was a victory that caught the attention of ONE.

And as a result, Tabares' inaugural performance will see him battle Rodtang, and a win would certainly shock the Muay Thai world.

Rodtang has never been beaten in Muay Thai competition in ONE and has overcome names such as former ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion Jonathan Haggerty, ONE Strawweight Muay Thai World Champion Joseph Lasiri, and Danial Williams.

A victory over "The Iron Man" would set the promotional newcomer apart from the rest and see him capture the most coveted World Title in all of Muay Thai. Tabares is well aware of the stature of his opposition, though, and he looks at the encounter as a dream fight.

The knowledge he possesses on Rodtang has set the underdog up with a chance to make the unthinkable come to fruition. However, the same cannot be said for Rodtang.

Tabares enters the contest as something of an anomaly, and Rodtang is expecting the unexpected with the former. In comparison to the heaps of footage available on the flyweight king, Tabares will enter the bout with a realm of uncertainty surrounding him.

These factors make for an interesting co-main event in Denver, supplying the Mexican mauler with plenty to gain, while simultaneously offering Rodtang plenty to lose.
