ONE Fight Night 13: Mikey Musumeci Refusing To Back Down From Jarred Brooks

ONE Flyweight Submission Grappling World Champion Mikey Musumeci has been building a legacy since joining The Home of Martial Arts. And this Saturday, 5 August, "Darth Rigatoni" will face a fellow promotional standout of a different kind.

The American grappling dynamo defends his prestigious strap against ONE Strawweight MMA World Champion Jarred Brooks in the co-main event of ONE Fight Night 13 at Bangkok, Thailand's Lumpinee Boxing Stadium.

In recent times, Musumeci has opened up on his struggles surrounding anxiety. And while suffering from the mental barriers placed before him, "Darth Rigatoni" has still managed to remain victorious.

Musumeci has defeated names like Masakazu Imanari, Cleber Sousa, and Osamah Almarwai under such conditions. The 27-year-old feels he has conquered his competitive demons, so he's ready to show his unshackled potential against his decorated compatriot.

"[It took] four matches, but I broke that barrier in that match [against Almarwai]. So, that was like the most important thing that happened to me, because I finally broke out of that stubborn, frozen mindset," Musumeci said.

"So now, I feel like I could just open up against Jared without even caring. Like, no f***s given, just attack him like I'm in the gym training.

"I know I got stubborn because I was still frozen [in that fight against Almarwai]. Remember, I told you it took me four matches. The last two minutes of that freaking match were actually me."

Musumeci's talents have seen him quickly rise to stardom in ONE. But the same can be said for Brooks. "The Monkey God" has dominated every foe with his relentless pressure en route to the ONE Strawweight World Title.

However, the Singapore-based grappler has no qualms about the pressure from Brooks. In fact, Musumeci plans to meet his fellow champion head-on. And he expects the most rigorous test of his career with his ONE Flyweight Submission Grappling World Title on the line.

"Jarred's going to fight me. He's going to come out and try to break me. You know, he's freaking high level and tough. They're tough guys, you know? So, he's going to really come after me," Musumeci said.

"I feel like this is very exciting for fans because I don't stop fighting either. I go forward, and I don't stop moving. So it's going to be two guys going forward at each other."
