Bangkok, February 22: Jamal Yusupov has plans to finish off his opponent and a world champion in the next fight scheduled to take place in just a few days from now.
When Yusupov steps inside the Circle this weekend, it's not only ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Champion Tawanchai PK Saenchai he will have to deal with.
"Yeniceri" will step into the furnace this Saturday, 25 February, at ONE Fight Night 7: Lineker vs. Andrade II to sweep the belt away from the 23-year-old king, but he will also have the herculean task of doing it in the Thai star's backyard of Bangkok, Thailand.
More importantly, the fight will take place on the hallowed grounds of which Tawanchai made his name - Lumpinee Stadium.
While others would shudder at the thought of entering enemy territory with the grandest gold up for grabs, the Turkish tussler relishes the opportunity. Yusupov expects Tawanchai to ooze confidence in an environment so familiar to him, but he will remain unfazed surrounded by the partisan crowd.
"Sometimes, fighting on home turf can become a barrier for a fighter, and sometimes it helps. It depends on how he reacts to it during the fight. The reaction is always up to the individual," Yusupov said.
At 39-years-old, the Bursa brawler has seen it all in his 63-fight career. His impetuous style has brought many gleaming accolades to his name, including six national championships in Russia and almost half of his victories ending by knockout.
On top of that, Yusupov also remains unbeaten in ONE, holding three-straight victories over prestige names in Samy Sana, Yodsanklai Fairtex, and most recently Jo Nattawut last year at ONE 159 to earn this opportunity.
The recent fortune has placed an extra spring in Yusupov's step, and he's confident he will shock the Muay Thai world and silence the Lumpinee crowd at ONE Fight Night 7 this Saturday.
"I think the fight will end early. I will do my best for it to end early," Yusupov said. "I am ready for five tough rounds, but I'll try to win early by knockout."
