Bangkok, Febraury 23: Jamal Yusupov's unbeaten streak in ONE Championship has flown under the radar for many, but this week he has the chance to shock the world.
"Yeniceri" faces ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Champion Tawanchai PK Saenchai in the co-main event of ONE Fight Night 7: Lineker vs. Andrade II this Saturday, 25 February.
The cards will be stacked against Yusupov when he enters the 23-year-old World Champion's hometown of Bangkok, Thailand, but the Turkish tussler's fighting abilities leave him confident ahead of the bout.
With that in mind, let's look at three keys to victory for Yusupov:
Dictate The Pace
A key ingredient of Yusupov's combat sports success has been his aggression. The pressuring style has allowed him to control his fights and place his opponents on the back foot, proving a successful method inside the ring.
His aggressive style has also seen him dispatch striking veterans in Jo Nattawut, Samy Sana, and Thai standout Yodsanklai Fairtex.
If the Turkish star can control the flow of the fight, he will provide himself with a strong foundation to dethrone Tawanchai.
Utilize Signature Flurries
Over the course of his 63-fight career, almost half of his victories have come by way of a thunderous knockout.
Yusupov's heavy-handed approach to fighting has kept his opposition at bay as they feel the power possessed in his fists. The ONE World Title challenger has predicted an early finish of Tawanchai on fight night, and his signature flurries will be a good tool to disrupt the Bangkok native's stoic approach.
The 39-year-old picks his moments expertly to get his shots off - a skill that's seen him go 3-0 inside the Circle. If he can land a vintage flurry early in the bout and tease more fight-ending combinations, it will keep Tawanchai guessing.
Anticipate Tawanchai's Head Kicks
The Muay Thai king's stoic stature has made his striking a hard tool to see coming. In knockouts of Niclas Larsen and Saemapetch Fairtex, his calm approach laid the groundwork to deliver the highlight-reel finishes.
The head kicks in Tawanchai's arsenal can be devastating and fired with precision at any moment. Should Yusupov figure out Tawanchai's patterns, his counters could indeed shock the Muay Thai world.
