Singapore, March 9: Rodtang Jitmuangnon has long been a formidable name on the ONE Championship roster. With undeniable form and the ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Championship hanging over his shoulder, the hungry Thai striker wants more.
"The Iron Man" will get his opportunity to double his fortunes later this month when he meets fellow striker in ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Champion Superlek Kiatmoo9 at ONE Fight Night 8: Malykhin vs. Bhullar on Saturday, 25 March.
The Muay Thai king has amassed one of the greatest resumes in ONE since arriving in the promotion. His journey in The Home of Martial Arts began at ONE: Conquest Of Heroes in September 2018 when he met Sergio Wielzen, breezing by the Suriname slugger with a unanimous decision.
The former's next two outings followed the same suit, but Rodtang's first finish in ONE came against Sok Thy. Rodtang dispatched his Cambodian counterpart in the second stanza of ONE: Warriors Of Light - and it was that stoppage that gave "The Iron Man" a taste for carnage inside the Circle.
Always active and always pressing, the Muay Thai monster had impressed over the course of his first four outings, which then presented the biggest opportunity of his career - the ONE Flyweight Muay Thai crown worn by British banger Jonathan "The General" Haggerty.
Rodtang's first taste of gold came at ONE: DAWN OF HEROES in August 2019, where a slugfest with Haggerty ensued for the masses. Ultimately, Rodtang's relentlessness took precedence, seeing him dethrone the Brit and claim his rightful seat atop the flyweight Muay Thai division.
The reign of Rodtang had begun, and the champion's dominance was there for all to see. Nobody could get near him in Muay Thai action, no matter who tried.
Haggerty twice, Danial Williams, Jacob Smith - even ONE Strawweight Muay Thai World Champion Joseph Lasiri. It didn't matter who, for "The Iron Man's" iron will was too much.
While the acclaimed king of combat does have plans for a crossover into the mixed martial arts world, there is one World Title he wants first, and it currently sits over the shoulder of his compatriot, Superlek.
The return to kickboxing had Rodtang envisioning golden horizons, and Superlek was only a victory away.
Following a short-notice rearrangement at ONE Fight Night 6 that saw Rodtang face Jiduo Yibu, the Muay Thai standout made easy work of the Chinese challenger in kickboxing action, picking up a unanimous decision yet again while leaving Jiduo bloody and beaten.
Having started his 2023 in prolific fashion, Rodtang plans to assert himself atop of the combat sports world in becoming a two-sport champion in ONE.
Superlek's dominance matches the recent prowess of his fellow countryman, so the two colliding will make for fireworks later this month.
If Rodtang can double his money and drape himself in ONE gold, then it is hard to argue his bid of being one of the greatest combat athletes of the modern era.
