Singapore, March 15: After almost three years away from active competition, ONE Atomweight Muay Thai World Champion Allycia Hellen Rodrigues is back to make the first defense of her crown.
The atomweight queen will face fellow decorated ONE Atomweight Kickboxing and Interim Muay Thai World Champion Janet Todd on Saturday, March 25, at ONE Fight Night 8: Bhullar vs. Malykhin in Singapore.
To refresh your memory about the youthful champion, here are three things to know about Rodrigues.
She Has A 30-5 record
Amassing such a strong record by 21 years of age is no easy feat. After gaining a plethora of experience, Rodrigues turned professional in 2017 while winning her first championship in Sao Paolo, Brazil, in 2017, doing so while remaining undefeated.
To reach the upper echelons, Rodrigues decide to move to Thailand. It was there that she separated herself from the flock, winning the Auytthaya "Pink Belt" Title in March 2019. It was this performance that captured the attention of ONE, and only time would tell how she would fair inside the Circle.
She Won A World Title In Her ONE debut
Entering ONE for the very first time in 2020, Rodrigues battled decorated two-sport ONE World Champion Stamp Fairtex.
The Fairtex fighter was looking untouchable at the time, holding both the ONE Atomweight Muay Thai and Kickboxing World Titles simultaneously. But at ONE: A New Breed, a bushy tailed challenger arrived. Rodrigues travelled to Bangkok, Thailand, to vie for the world championship.
In emphatic fashion, the stoic 21-year-old dispatched Stamp over the course of five rounds to take home a unanimous decision win and the atomweight Muay Thai crown to boot. To defeat a champion like Stamp is one thing, but to do it so convincingly in enemy territory is a different feat altogether.
She's A Dedicated Mother
It's been nearly three years now since Rodrigues arrived in ONE, and while she might not have been active, her absence has been one of an understandable nature - motherhood.
Having given birth to a baby boy, Rodrigues has become a proud mother, sharing her newfound joy on social media. Nevertheless, though, her roots have come calling once again, and she will step back in the Circle in the Singapore Indoor Stadium to defend her throne later this month.
