ONE Friday Fights 50: Komawut Edges Out Yodphupa, Panrit Punishes Kongklai

By Mike Joseph

ONE Friday Fights showcased its 50th installment on 2 February, and the action didn't disappoint inside Bangkok, Thailand's Lumpinee Boxing Stadium as more titans of MMA and Muay Thai put it all on the line for a potential six-figure contract with ONE Championship.

The main event saw Komawut FA Group take on Yodphupa Wimanair in a razor-close outing across three rounds, with the pair going blow-for-blow as the former took home the split decision in 147.2-pound catchweight Muay Thai.

The opening frame portrayed a tentative contest as the elite strikers tried to figure one another out. But in the midst of a closely fought encounter, Komawut's willingness to enter the fray swayed the contest in his favor.

Yodphupa fought his way back into the bout in the middle frame, showing the aggression that made him the Road to ONE: Thailand winner. But as the final round began, Komawut's counters allowed him to edge forward on the scorecards to take home the split-decision win.

The co-main event saw Panrit Lukjaomaesaiwaree offer his best promotional performance yet against Kongklai Annymuaythai in 140-pound catchweight Muay Thai. Panrit pressed forward from the get-go, landing the cleaner strikes before earning the knockout in the first minute of the final round.

After a strong body of work throughout, the 27-year-old sensed the end was near, stinging Kongklai with a perfect right hand before ending the bout with unforgiving elbows at 0:55 of round three to earn the 70th win of his career.
