ONE Lightweight Kickboxing World Title: Why Is Rungrawee Sitsongpeenong Called ‘Legatron’?

Thai striker Rungrawee Sitsongpeenong has shared the story behind his nickname before a major title fight. He meets Muay Thai champion Regian Eersel for the vacant ONE Lightweight Kickboxing World Title on 10 April in The Inner Circle main event on onefc.com.

The 30-year-old fighter from Ubon Ratchathani has a 158-48 career record. His game focuses on heavy leg kicks and steady pressure. Standing 5 feet 11, he owns a 6-2 record in ONE, including three straight wins to start.

Origin of 'Legatron’ nickname

The nickname came from the Sitsongpeenong gym, where he trains. The son of his gym boss, Mr. Tim, noticed his powerful left kick. The young fan liked Transformers films and mixed that idea with Rungrawee’s style.

"I got the name from the son of my gym boss, Mr. Tim. He saw how powerful my left kick was. At the time, he was into Transformers movies, so he came up with 'Legatron.' It's basically a mashup of 'Leg' and 'Megatron.' It fits my aggressive kicking style perfectly," Rungrawee said.

The choice was not planned between them. Tim asked Rungrawee what nickname he wanted before his early ONE bouts. The Thai athlete did not have any ideas and let the boy decide on his fight name.

"He asked me what I wanted my nickname to be, and I told him, 'I don't know, you pick!' So he chose 'Legatron.' That was right when I started fighting in ONE, around early 2023," he said.

Nickname and fight identity

The word stuck straight away in training and events. It linked his strength with a clear image fans could recall. For Rungrawee, the name matches how he sees his own strengths in the ring and his main weapon.

"I loved it immediately! It perfectly describes who I am as a fighter, someone with the kicking power of a robot. It's become my trademark, and it's how fans recognise me now," Rungrawee said.
