ONGC registers second consecutive win

Lucknow, Jun 4 (UNI) Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) registered second consecutive win in 56th Sahara City Homes sheesh Mahal Cricket tournament here today.

At the K D Singh Babu stadium the match between ONGC and Air India was curtailed down to 15 overs due to soggy pitch condition after the wee hours rains, while the match at chowk stadium remained of 40 overs as precautionary measures were taken to protect the pitch.

ONGC beat Air India by 30 runs and Karachi Jelani Tigers (KJT) Pakistan registered their first win of the tournament defeating UPCA by 51 runs. Both the winning teams collected four points each with this win.

While batting first ONGC's Sandeep Sharma maintained his brilliant form and scored 31 balls-49. He struck three bounderies and equal number of sixes ONGC scored 154 runs for the loss of only 4 wickets.

For AI, Vineet Jain, Arun Pandey and R Prakash bagged one wicket each.

In reply, Air India failed to reach the target by 31 runs. After the completion of 15 overs the Air India team scored 124 for four wickets.

Skipper Rizwan Shamshad grabbed 2 wickets, while Sohail Sharma and Sumit took one wicket each.

At the Chowk stadium the UPCA opted to field first against KJT and this decision of skipper Mohd Tahir dashed his hopes on the wet outfield.

Batting first Pakistan's team scored 250 runs. Bharat Awasthi took five wickets in eight overs at a cost of 38 runs.

Chasing a victory target of 251 runs the UPCA innings reduced on 199, only Anshul Kapoor waged a lone battle with his 72 runs innings. Pakistan's Syed Haris shined with his off spin attack by claiming six wickets. UPCA faced the defeat by 51 runs.

Air India will face UPCA at chowk stadium and ONGC will challenge KJT Pakistan at Babu stadium tomorrow in their last league matches.
