Orissa concedes crucial points to Hyderabad

By Staff

Cuttack, Nov 5 (UNI) Host Orissa conceded crucial points as they were bundled out for 269 in reply to Hyderabad's first innings total of 296 all out on the third day of the Elite Group A Ranji Trophy match played at the Barabati stadium here today.

At close, Hyderabad were 56 for 1 in their second innings.

The much-acclaimed battling line of Orissa collapsed with P Jayachandra being the only one to put up a fight. Orissa started the day disastrously when Captain S S Das was run out after adding only five runs to his overnight score of 75.

The unnecessary run-out triggered a batting collapse with star batsman Haladhar and Saurav Sehgal falling cheaply. Haladhar could manage only 8 runs when he was claimed by left arm spinner Pragyan Ojha.

Saurav Sehgal and Rakesh Mohanty failed to put up a big total after settling down. Both fell in their 20s with Sehgal scoring 25 runs and Rakesh 28 runs. It was only Jayachandra who went on to put up a valiant fight by scoring 43 runs before being bowled by S M Shoaib.

Both S M Shoaib and Amol Shinde claimed three wickets each while Pragyan Ojha took two wickets.

Consolidating their position Hyderabad scored 56 for one after losing opener T Suman for 4 runs.

However, D Rajiv Teja and D Roshi Raj began their innings in a solid manner putting a partnership of 50 runs in 93 minutes.

At the end of play Teja and Raj remained not out on 22 and 33 runs respectively.

Brief Score: Hyderabad (1st innings) 296 all out Abhinav Kumar 99 (not out), S Anoop Pai (73), Ravi Teja (71).

D Mohanty 3 for 63, B Mohanty 3 for 81, P Das 3 for 59.

Orissa (1st innings) 269 all out S S Das 80, P Jayachandra 43 , B S Pati 37.

S M Shoaib 3 for 50, Amol Shinde 3 for 24, Pragyan Ojha 2 for 49.
