Oscar Piastri's frustration was evident after a 10-second grid penalty for a safety car infringement cost him the win at the British Grand Prix, impacting his lead in the drivers' championship. The penalty allowed his McLaren teammate, Lando Norris, to secure victory at Silverstone, making Norris the 36th driver to win a Formula One race on home soil.
Piastri demonstrated impressive speed by overtaking pole-sitter Max Verstappen in wet conditions. However, during lap 22, an incident occurred as he prepared to restart after the second safety car period. Piastri applied his brakes, causing Verstappen to take the lead momentarily. Amidst the confusion, Piastri advanced while Verstappen spun out of contention.

The FIA quickly penalised Piastri with a 10-second penalty for erratic braking. Piastri expressed his dissatisfaction with this decision, describing it as unfair and requesting that Norris swap positions with him late in the race. This request was not entertained, leaving Piastri visibly upset.
Speaking to Channel 4, Piastri remarked on the situation: "Apparently you can't brake behind the safety car anymore... I did it for five laps before that." He refrained from further comments to avoid trouble but thanked fans for their support despite challenging weather conditions at Silverstone.
When questioned by Sky Sports about his disagreement with the FIA's ruling, Piastri stated: "I can't be bothered. There's no point. I can't change it." He expressed surprise over receiving a penalty for actions he believed were consistent with previous restarts.
Norris' triumph marked his second consecutive victory, narrowing Piastri's lead in the championship standings to just eight points. Despite winning four of the first five races this season, Piastri has only secured one victory in the last six races, which was at the Spanish Grand Prix.
Piastri acknowledged his team's efforts and praised their performance: "The team did a great job. We had an absolute rocketship of a car today." Despite multiple safety cars affecting the race dynamics, he noted that winning by such a margin was commendable.
Piastri remains optimistic about future races despite recent setbacks. His determination is evident as he continues to compete fiercely in this season's championship battle.
