Padmini Rout, Mohana Priya maintain joint lead

Mumbai, Jan 16 (UNI) Top seed Padmini Rout of Orissa and J Mohana Priya with 7.5 points after nine rounds, share the lead in the National U-13 girls chess championship, organized by Bombay Chess Association at the Andheri Sports Complex here today.

Shalmali Gagare of Maharashtra, N L V Anusha of Andhra Pradesh, and Shati Majumdar of West Bengal are following the leaders with 7 points.

In the 9th round, on top board, Padmini Rout started the game in Ruy Lopez opening against J Sharanya of Tamil Nadu. Sharanya played g6 than the usual a6 as the 3rd move. The game was equal in the middle game. Since no progress happened in the end game, both the players agreed to a draw.

On the 2nd board, Y G Shriharika of Andhra Pradesh played Scotch Game with Mohana Priya. The game went in to the Queen ending and both the players, not taking any risk, agreed to a draw.
